Thirty years in the construction industry before becoming a home inspector means that our owner, Jim Williams, understands houses and buildings very intimately. Jim has been in a position that included reviewing site development and construction plans as well as development of subdivisions for housing and development of healthcare facilities for the elderly. Jim’s training, experience, and qualifications place him in the top league of home inspectors.

Rachel, is a natural educator. She approaches each inspection as an exciting teaching and learning experience. She enjoys exploring homes and encouraging clients as part of the inspection process to learn as much possible about their new homes. Her goal is a well-informed buyer who leaves the inspection with as many questions as possible answered. Like Jim, she believes that a thorough Pillar To Post home inspection helps to provide peace of mind for new home owners. She also serves on educational panels for Realtor® groups and regularly co-leads first time homebuyer seminars.

About the Home Inspection

A typical home inspection will normally last about two or three hours, but this can vary depending on the size and complexity of the home being inspected. The report will list all of the findings and will include all of the details, and there are pictures provided with the report to document any areas that cause concern during the inspection. Participation and questions during the inspection are encouraged, and our job includes educating home buyers and sellers on the specific condition of the home in question.

In today’s real estate game, all is about first impressions. Not unlike a first date, a good first impression can lead to further opportunities. Since today’s buyers are searching for their dream home on the internet, marketing your home is very much like internet dating. Now before you laugh, let’s look at the similarities.

■Pictures are everything!!! Give me a good reason why you don’t have at least 20 great photos online. If your real estate agent has not done this for you, I suggest a heart to heart. Furthermore, “big and bright” is the name of the game with property photos. A set of dark, fuzzy, or small photos just doesn’t cut it. In this information age, you must always be one step ahead of the competition.

■Full property description!!! This seems simple but you would be surprised how many listings I came across were missing rooms dimensions, HOA dues, what type of flooring the rooms have, and even no mention of the amenities. Can you imagine initiating a conversation online with a date without knowing anything about that person?

■Excellent and prompt communications!!! The listing agent should be knowledgeable and readily accessible to his/her clients and return calls or answer e-mails promptly. Can you imagine a situation where a prospective buyer of your house asks a question that your agent cannot answer? Or not responding to an inquiry in a timely fashion, thus missing the opportunity to show your house?

Town Center is the downtown area of Columbia. Residents appreciate the uniqueness of Town Center with its urban living in a suburban setting. Wild Lake

The village of Wilde Lake was named for Frazar B. Wilde, past chairman of the board of Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. The village center is located in the Wilde Lake Village Green, and has various small grocery stores, restaurants, and other retail establishments. The Wilde Lake Community Center is named Slayton House, which was named for John Slayton, first manager of the Columbia Association. Wilde Lake neighborhoods include Bryant Woods, Faulkner Ridge and Running Brook.

What Makes Wilde Lake Unique?

• Columbia Swim Center – contains three indoor pools and a water slide called “Splashdown,” is located in the village center.

• Wilde Lake High School – opened in 1971 as a model school for the nation, was the first high school to open in Columbia. The old design was oval and two stories, with a media center located in the center and accessible from the second level. The original high school was demolished in 1996 and a new one constructed.

River Hill

River Hill is the last village to be developed in the new town of Columbia, Maryland, though its mailing address is in Clarksville. It is home to about 6,500 residents. It is bounded by Maryland Route 108 and Maryland Route 32, and is centered on Trotter Road. The village is divided into two neighborhoods: Pheasant Ridge and Pointers Run, which are much more conventional in design than earlier neighborhoods in Columbia.

What Makes River Hill Unique?

• River Hill Community Association – offices are conveniently located in Claret Hall in the River Hill Village Shopping Center. The Association provides a variety of programs and services for community residents.

• River Hill Meeting Room – opened in 1995. This 896 square foot multipurpose room with a galley kitchen is located next to the River Hill Outdoor Pool. It currently houses a local nursery school, and is available for meetings or social rentals with a capacity of 60 guests.

• Claret Hall – the newest CA facility, opened in 1999. This 5200 square foot building is conveniently located at Route 108 and Route 32 in Clarksville, Maryland, and is only 25 minutes from Baltimore and 45 minutes from Washington, D.C. Claret Hall is perfect for bar/bat mitzvahs, parties or receptions. Our Wireless Internet capability makes it ideal for business meetings.
